Our Recycling
Tasmanian Printer Cartridge Company started remanufacturing cartridges 9 years ago, after
Paul and Andreina French realised that cartridges were used once and then thrown into landfill
sites. They started by remanufacturing 14 different printer cartridges and today they
recycle over 160 different cartridges and employ 16 members of staff.
No printer cartridges go into landfill
The following items are recycled:
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Plastic bags
- Bubble wrap
- Plastic bottles
- Toner
- Steel and aluminium components
- Worn out printer cartridges (which are granulised and remoulded into everything
from rulers to park benches)
Facts and Figures
Over 11 million ink and 3 million toner cartridges* ar imported every year into
Australia. Every imported cartridge causes an economic and environmental impact.
Australians choose to remanufacture 23%* of their printer cartridges, reducing
unnecssary landfill.
Each time a cartridge is reused, it reduces the need for another cartridge to be
made and imported into Australia.
For every additional $1 million** of remanufacturing business, the Australian
economy benefits to the tune of:
- $317,000 worth in tax revenue
- $1,264,000 worth of value added is generated
- $211,700 worth of welfare benefits is saved and 18 full time jobs are created
- $88.4 million toner and $31.4 million ink cartridges are remanufactured each year
by Australian companies, which employ 1,448 Australians*
